Fire Damage

Fire damage repairs are often extensive; even a small fire can cause catastrophic damage. The amount of repairs required depends greatly on the amount of fire, heat, smoke, and soot produced. Even if it looks like there isn’t a lot of damage, you need to hire a professional contractor to survey the actual damages. Your insurance adjustor probably has a contractor they work with on a regular basis. We recommend hiring someone on your own; which is what leads you to us.

At Mangrove Construction, we have worked with homeowners who have suffered fire damages. Some require minimal work while others need entire rooms rebuilt. We understand that this is a very overwhelming time for you, and we strive to make it as smooth as possible.

We focus greatly on reducing our own carbon footprints and we help you do the same if you desire. We’ll discuss replacing your appliances with Energy Star rated appliances, damaged windows and doors with insulated low-e products, and replacing damaged insulation with high quality insulation. Ask us about other ways to reduce your carbon footprint and live greener.

Don’t ever use appliances that have been damaged by smoke and soot. While you may be able to clean them, a few issues may arise in the near future. First, the acids in soot cause serious problems with the electronics that could cause another fire. Secondly, they will turn yellow over time because of the smoke and soot. Thirdly, surface cleaning isn’t enough to thoroughly clean the soot and oxidation from the surfaces of your appliances, countertops, and everything else in your home.

Most things throughout your home will need to be replaced. Some items may be saved and cleaned, but be prepared to lose and replace everything you own. Consider hiring a restoration company to try to save some of your most cherished household items. Your insurance adjuster will work with you to generate an inventory of your personal belongings. We aren’t involved in that process. Our focus will be on repairing the structure of your home so you can move back in as quickly as possible.
